The saddest casino in all of Las Vegas?

Nevada has a law that requires a gambling company with a casino license to offer gaming, and if no gaming is provided for a two-year period, the valuable license is lost.

Thus, for only about eight hours this week, a temporary casino opened that operated under a white tent. According to FOX5 Las Vegas, the location, formerly home to The Beach nightclub at 365 E. Convention Center Dr., briefly had 16 older video poker machines in operation.

The casino, if you can even call it that, attracted some players. Some locals were interested in checking out the oddity.

The tent casino is on land owned by Marriott International and run by Century Gaming Technologies, according to the report.

“On May 18, 2023, the Nevada Gaming Commission approved the application of Century Gaming Technologies, a licensed operator of a slot machine route, db at The Beach, located at 365 E Convention Center Dr, for an eight-hour gaming operation to operate 16 slot machines to preserve its grandfathered status,” the Nevada Gaming Control Board told FOX5 Las Vegas.

“The location is grandfathered to conduct nonrestricted gaming operations without being a resort hotel as required by NRS 463.1605. As such, the grandfather status will expire if no gaming is offered for more than 24 months from the last day gaming was conducted.”

According to the report, Las Vegas has been home to a pop-up casino like this one 10 times over the last 17 years.
